MLB Playoffs odds, model projections, schedule for Monday’s ALDS Game 2s: Tigers at Guardians, Royals at Yankees

E.Nelson55 min ago

The home teams won both Game 1s to start the American League Division Series on Saturday. The Cleveland Guardians and New York Yankees are both clearly in prime position in the odds, but Tarik Skubal is taking the mound on Monday so the Detroit Tigers are favored to win Game 2 in Cleveland.

Skubal is the AL Cy Young favorite and already has a playoff gem under his belt. He pitched six scoreless innings against Houston in Game 1 of the Wild Card series. It's only a 1-0 series lead for Cleveland after a dominant 7-0 win in Game 1 that featured five Guardians runs in the first inning, but this feels almost like a must-win for Detroit. The series will head to Detroit after Monday's Game 2, but Skubal is the Tigers' clear ace and the pitcher that leaves the team and the fans expecting victory every time he pitches.

If Skubal leads the Tigers to a victory in Game 2, the Tigers go home tied up with the possibility of having Skubal pitch a Game 5 on four days of rest if needed. The difference between that and a 2-0 series deficit is massive.

Meanwhile, the Yankees didn't get an ace-like performance from Gerrit Cole in Game 1 but won a battle of the bullpens against the Kansas City Royals . The Yankees still sit as the favorite to win the AL pennant. Will Carlos Rodon deliver in Game 2 and put the Royals on the brink of elimination?

Here's a look at the odds and projections from The Bat X for Monday's ALDS Game 2s.
