MMC VP Rhoten to be featured speaker at Winslow Award dinner
Updates on Meadville Medical Center's various current projects will be presented by Don Rhoten at the upcoming 55th Greater Meadville Area Day Winslow Award dinner.
Rhoten, the medical center's vice president of consumer engagement and president of the Meadville Medical Center Foundation, will be the featured speaker.
The invitation-only event, sponsored by the Economic Progress Alliance of Crawford County, will be held Wednesday evening at the Iroquois Boating and Fishing Club at Conneaut Lake.
Greater Meadville Area Day was initiated in 1969 by the then-Meadville Area Industrial Commission, a predecessor of the Economic Progress Alliance. The initial award was to commemorate the 85th birthday of Dr. Harry C. Winslow, a business leader and surgeon in the Meadville area.
With Winslow's civic-minded activities as a model over the years, the Winslow Award is presented during the dinner program to an individual, business or organization that has made a significant contribution to the growth of the greater Meadville area.
Rhoten will discuss the importance of preserving local medical services as well as general updates regarding Meadville Medical Center. He also will discuss the hospital's Vernon Place medical facility and its development as well as the hospital's role with attempting to keep medical services available at Sharon Regional Medical Center in Mercer County.
Rhoten is a certified fundraising executive with a Master's Degree in strategic fundraising and philanthropy. He has more than 20 years in fundraising experience.
He joined Meadville Medical Center in 2011 as president of its foundation. Since then, he was named vice president for consumer engagement and is administratively responsible for public relations, marketing, transportation, emergency management, security and WIC, a supplemental nutritional program for women, infants and children.
