Monday's high school basketball: Brynn Ferguson scores 20 as Blacksburg opens season with win

Junior Brynn Ferguson hit four 3-pointers and finished with 20 points as the Blacksburg girls basketball team opened its season with a 64-28 win over Radford on Monday.

It was the first meeting between the Bruins (1-0) and Bobcats (0-1) since 2019.

Parry McCluer 53, Altavista 13

Victoria Hamilton scored 17 of her game-high 20 points in the first half as the Fighting Blues opened their campaign with a dominating win over the Colonels.

Natalie Mohler added 10 points for Parry McCluer (1-0) and Emory Slagle chipped in eight.

Galax 61, Alleghany (N.C.) 34

Every player found the scoring column as the Maroon Tide turned an 11-point halftime lead into a 27-point home victory.

Josh Jemison and Adam Dillon tallied 13 points apiece for Galax (1-0), while Hunter Mankins notched nine.
