4-month-old Bronx boy dies from cocaine in system, case ruled homicide

A 4-month-old Bronx boy died from having cocaine in his system, police said Thursday.

Little Ariel Gonzalez's 34-year-old mother called 911 about 9:10 p.m. Aug. 10 to report the baby was unconscious inside the family's home on Eagle Ave. near E. 156th St. in the South Bronx.

Medics rushed the boy to Lincoln Hospital but he couldn't be saved.

On Wednesday the city Medical Examiner ruled his death a homicide after an autopsy revealed he had cocaine in his system. The official cause of death is acute cocaine intoxication, police said.

No arrests have been made as cops continue to investigate how the boy was exposed to the drug.

Police said there had been no prior contact between the family and the city's Administration for Children's Services .

A judge recused himself Tuesday from presiding over Arizona's fake electors case after an email surfaced in which he told fellow judges to speak out against attacks on Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign for the presidency. An arrest report gives more details about what occurred before a man was shot to death Wednesday in the 3200 block of West Edgewood Avenue. Investigators observed surveillance video that showed the victim driving an orange Chevrolet Camaro with orange rims at the intersection of Edgewood Avenue and New Kings Road, according to the JSO arrest report for Lavertis Reed, 20, who was charged with murder in the shooting. As the victim's vehicle crossed the intersection, a white vehicle with dark rims was observed on the surveillance video driving south at a high rate of speed on New Kings Road, the arrest report states.
