More rain is on the way to Merced. Here’s the weather forecast for Veterans Day weekend

Rain is in store for Merced as Veteran Day approaches, according to the National Weather Service.

"A quick-moving weather system is set to bring wet, unsettled weather to the area primarily on Monday," the weather agency said on X, formerly called Twitter.

Here's what to expect ahead of the holiday weekend:

What's in the weather forecast for Merced?

Friday was expected to be sunny with a high temperature near 70 degrees and a low temperature around 41 degrees, according to the National Weather Service's latest forecast .

Saturday will be mostly sunny with a high near 69 and a low around 41 degrees.

Sunday will be sunny with a high near 68 degrees, with the low dipping to around 42 degrees overnight.

Will it rain on Veterans Day?

A rainstorm is expected to roll into the Merced area on Monday.

"We're expecting a 30% chance of rain Monday afternoon and a 40% chance Monday evening," said David Spector, a meteorologist with with the National Weather Service office in Hanford.

The Merced area will be one to two 10ths of an inch of rain at that point, Spector said.

There's also a 40% chance of rain "Monday evening into Tuesday," he said.

Tuesday will be mostly sunny with a high near 63 and wind gusts up to 15 mph.

Tuesday night will be partly cloudy with a low around 41 and winds of 5 mph.

Wednesday will be sunny with a high near 67 and an overnight low around 44.

There's a 20% chance of rain on Thursday, the weather service said.

That day will be mostly sunny, with a high near 67 and winds around 5 mph.

How much rain will Merced get?

"Much of the San Joaquin Valley has between a 20% to 30% chance of receiving a 10th of an inch or more of rainfall on Monday night," the weather service said in an X post.

During the same time, parts of the Sierra Nevada has a 25% to 40% chance of a 10th of an inch or more of "liquid precipitation," the agency said.

"We're not expecting a whole lot of precipitation from this (storm)," Spector said. "It looks like most of this storm is mostly going to go to the north of our area, and we're just going to get a little bit (of rain) if any."
