The University of Mary's women's basketball team was ranked No. 11 in the preseason Northern Sun women's basketball poll. Concordia-St. Paul was ranked first with 10 of 16 first place votes. Wayne State was ranked second with 6 first-place votes.
Williston volleyball swept St. Mary's. The first set was close with the Coyotes securing a narrow 25-21 victory, but from there Williston demolished the Saints, winning the next two sets 25-9 and 25-11. Jana Skadeland led Williston with 14 kills.
The Mandan Braves prepared to face the undefeated Bismarck Demons on Friday night. Mandan came into the game with a 4-1 record and needed the win to stay in contention for the conference title. Mandan head coach Louis Bosch said the key to defeating the Demons was to contain their outside game and tailback Marc Patchen.
