Morrisville community reacts to Usha Vance making history as the Second Lady
MORRSVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — The Trump-Vance White House will usher in a historic moment when Usha Vance, the wife of Vice President-elect JD Vance, becomes the first Second Lady of Indian origin and the first Hindu Second Lady.
Many in Morrisville are thrilled to be represented.
"To have someone of the same background representing our cultural values in the second-highest position I think is a good thing," Darshan Ramegowda said.
Said Ami Dave-Patel, "The name Usha means dawn. I'm seeing someone who looks like me and who has tradition and culture like me. It is empowering and it feels like somebody is representing the entire community."
Usha Vance is an attorney who was born and raised in San Diego, CA to Indian immigrants. The community hopes she will use her platform for good.
When she takes office, Vance will be the youngest Second Lady since 38-year-old Jane Barkley in the Truman administration in 1949.
