FLORISSANT, Mo. ( KMOV /Gray News) - A soon-to-be-mother in Missouri is being praised for her actions in saving a child from oncoming traffic.

Victoria Gamble said she was waiting at a traffic light in Florissant when she noticed an unusual sight in the middle of the road.

She said she saw a little kid running around.

In another car at the same intersection, Hailey Goedeke noticed the same thing.

"My fiancé was screaming at me saying, 'Hailey, Hailey, there's a little boy in the street'," she said.

Before Gamble and her fiancé could even turn the car around, Gamble was already a step ahead.

Goedeke said she witnessed Gamble running towards the little boy.

"I kinda had my arms out, and he ran into my arms with a big smile," Gamble said.

Gamble said the moment is one she hopes to share with her own child. She is expecting her first baby in March.

"I can't wait to hold my baby, teach my baby our values and our morals," she said. "I can't wait to watch my husband be a father."

Gamble, a Florissant native, now lives in North Carolina. She was in Florissant to celebrate the good news and was coming from her baby shower when she saw the child in the street.

"I was shocked when she said, 'I'm coming from my baby shower,' and I was like, 'What?'" Goedeke said. "Not only was she protecting that little boy but she's protecting herself and her unborn child as well, so there's three lives at risk at that point."

Gamble said this is a visit home she will always remember.

"It didn't quite sink in until after the cops showed up," she said. "I thought, 'What if this was our baby, what if this was our kid?' Maybe it was just God putting me in the right place at the right time."

As a thank you for her heroic actions, Goedeke, also a mother, said she launched a baby registry for Gamble.

Gamble said a Florissant officer notified her to let her know the boy made it safely home.
