A 22-year-old woman, who was killed when the car she was driving "at a high rate of speed" crashed into a utility pole in Long Beach, was identified today.

Officers were sent to the area of Spring Street and Studebaker Road at about 10:55 p.m. Wednesday, the Long Beach Police Department reported.

"Upon arrival, officers located a vehicle that had struck a utility pole," police said in a statement. "Officers then located a female adult driver inside the vehicle."

The woman died at the scene, police said.

She was later identified Friday by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner as Alexis Adams.

"The preliminary investigation revealed a 2024 BMW 440i was traveling eastbound on Spring Street at a high rate of speed," the police statement said. "The vehicle then lost control and collided with a utility pole. At this time, speed is being investigated as a "actor in the collision."
