    "Speak No Evil"

James McAvoy, Mackenzie Davis; directed by James Watkins

James Watkins' remake of the 2022 Danish original "Speak No Evil" centers on one family's weekend getaway gone absolutely awry. Notably, the rehash is infused with a mostly indistinguishable plot— replete with English and American subtleties.

Enter Paddy (James McAvoy), a British doctor on a Tuscan vacation with his wife Ciara (Aisling Franciosi) and their mute son Ant (Dan Hough). By chance, Paddy meets and befriends an American couple, Ben and Louise Dalton (Scoot McNairy and Mackenzie Davis), who are traveling in Italy along with their daughter Agnes (Alix West Lefler). The two families start sharing their life stories, and they really hit it off.

Soon, Ben and Louise receive a postcard from Paddy inviting them to visit the Brit's family home in the countryside. Louise, being the voice of reason, is cautious to oblige, while Ben, now unemployed, is rather thrilled to go.

And so, begins the Daltons' jaunt for a weekend holiday, setting in motion a much-anticipated reunion that soon turns upside down. Can the Daltons really trust the charming doctor?

McAvoy's electrifying performance is worth every penny to see the movie — though the ending might feel somewhat anticlimactic for some fans of the horror genre!

    "The Perfect Couple"

Nicole Kidman, Liev Schreiber; directed by Susanne Bier

Elin Hilderbrand's bestseller comes to life in Susanne Bier's thriller-mystery drama set in Nantucket's exclusive enclave of the rich and famous. Netflix's six-episode series, created by showrunner Jenna Lamia, posits a grand nuptial that quickly plunges into nightmare before it can even begin when a body washes up on the beach the morning of the wedding.

Whodunit? Could it be the groom's mother, the world-renowned novelist Greer Garrison Winbury (Nicole Kidman)? Or, perhaps, her touchy-feely husband, Tag Winbury (Live Schreiber)? How about their obnoxious older son, Thomas (Jack Reynor) and his gossipy pregnant wife, Abby (Dakota Fanning)? And of course, let's not forget the lackluster groom, Benji Winbury (Billy Howle), and his fraud-syndrome-stricken bride Amelia (Eve Hewson).

"The Perfect Couple" is absolutely riveting, from the moment you see Kidman's peering and veering eyes in the first episode to the shocking and surprising big reveal in the finale.
