MrBeast's Livestream Appearance Raises Questions

T.Lee13 hr ago

During a live stream with popular internet personalities MrBeast, Kai Cenat and Davis Dodds it appeared the room they were in exploded with fireworks—but everything might not be quite as it seems.

MrBeast—real name Jimmy Donaldson—holds the record for the most subscribers on YouTube, with 290 million followers at the time of writing. According to Forbes, in 2022 he was earning $54 million a year, mostly from ads on his YouTube videos. Many involve viral stunts and challenges or massive giveaways and he has also become known for giving back to his followers, often uploading videos of his charitable acts.

Cenat has also grown into a popular figure in the social media world . Outside of his live streams, which usually include Cenat playing video games or chatting with fans, he made a name for himself on YouTube as part of the content group AMP, of which Dodds is also a member. The group is known for prank and challenge videos and gaming streams and they all live together in a house in Atlanta, Georgia.

In a livestream on Twitch on Wednesday, the trio were filming together in what appeared to be Cenat's room, where hundreds of firecrackers were stacked, before things seemed to go horribly wrong. At one point during the stream, Davis asked MrBeast to leave the room as Davis and Cenat fought over Davis threatening to light the fireworks. Davis eventually managed to light one and as he and Cenat scrambled out of the room, the fireworks continued to go off until the live stream cut out.

Newsweek emailed spokespeople for MrBeast, Cenat and Dodds for comment on Thursday.

The clip circulated on social media, and while fans were initially shocked by what transpired, many are now speculating that it was a prank set up by the three men.

Many have theorized that they weren't actually filming in the AMP house, but instead in a fake replica of the room Cenat normally films from. People have taken to X, formerly Twitter , to share their thoughts.

"Kai Cenat and MrBeast supposedly 'burnt down' the AMP house, but Kai's supporters proved that it was a fake room," one person posted alongside photos of parts of the room being circled, in an attempt to prove that the men were filming on a set.

"!" YouTuber Samham wrote online, alongside a video of himself analyzing the fireworks video.

"Davis blows up $100,000 fireworks in Kai Cenat setup During the Mr Beast Stream," someone else wrote on X, alongside a clip of the live stream and a photo of a house on fire.

Eventually, a community note was added that read: "The image on the right is from a house fire in Atlanta 5 years ago. It is not the AMP house."

The Elon Musk -owned company says community notes "aim to create a better-informed world by empowering people on X to collaboratively add context to potentially misleading posts."

A fourth person added: "MrBeast building a whole set just to troll the entire internet is the type of s*** i would be doing if i was rich."

"???" someone else asked, to which a different X user responded: "Kai the only dude who makes streaming a legit production. Mr Beast does production on sets for almost every vid. Put 2 and 2 together, and look at the lighting on Jimmy's head. Definitely a professional set."
