FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - Prosecutors filed a murder charge against a 34-year-old Fort Wayne man Friday in connection to a fatal August shooting that claimed the life of a 29-year-old Chicago man.

Gregory Lovelady is accused of a role in the killing of Jamion Martin in the 7900 block of Decatur Road on Aug. 22. The suspect was booked into the Allen County Jail on a dealing in cocaine charge a week after Martin was gunned down and has remained there since.

Lovelady is the second person to face charges in connection to Martin's death, after 63-year-old Dwayne Sims was charged in September.

COURT DOCS: Battery led to fatal August shooting

Sims was identified by a witness as the shooter and being known to the victim as "Uncle Cubby," according to a probable cause affidavit written by Fort Wayne Police Detective Matthew Cline. The witness picked Sims out of a photo array and informed police Martin had battered the defendant three days before the shooting.

Investigators found a report detailing an assault by Martin on Sims and learned it was due to a dispute about allegations that the accused killer stole money from the victim's acquaintance, court records show.

Police also used security camera footage of the area where the shooting occurred to tie Sims to the scene of the crime, court records show. Lovelady was allegedly also seen on camera near the scene, newly filed court records show.

As they were leaving the scene, they picked up "Cubby," before driving him to Chicago.
