Murder Charge Filed In Arundel Mills Mall Fatal Shooting

Anne Arundel County Police said Dontay Maurice Fitzgerald, 45, of Baltimore, was arrested without incident Friday in the fatal shooting of Yant Junior Gomez , 31, of Harlem, New York.

According to online court records, Fitzgerald is being held without bond on charges of first- and second-degree murder, use of a firearm by a felon in a violent crime, two counts of loaded handgun on a person, and handgun on a person.

Officers found Gomez shot in the rear parking lot nearest the Hanover movie theater complex. Detectives think it was a targeted shooting, not a random act of violence.

Authorities were called around 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 13 to 7000 Arundel Mills Circle for a report of the shooting. Patrol officers assigned to the Arundel Mills entertainment district said they arrived within two minutes of the initial call.

The victim was found suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the upper torso. Anne Arundel County Fire Department medics took the victim to the University of Maryland R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, but authorities said he died en route to the hospital.
