(NEXSTAR) – A Delta flight bound for the Washington D.C. area was diverted Wednesday because of an odor reported in the flight deck.

A Delta spokesperson confirmed to Nexstar that Flight 850 from Atlanta was diverted to Raleigh-Durham International in North Carolina "out of an abundance of caution" because of the odor.

Passengers and crew had to deplane and board a new aircraft, but Delta said Thursday the source of the odor is still not confirmed.

"Safety is always our top priority, and we apologize to our customers for the delay in their travels."

The airline said that none of the 150 customers and six crew members were injured in the incident.

A spokesperson for the Federal Aviation Administration said there will be an investigation into the incident.
