Nanticoke Sweeps Pittston Area In Girls Volleyball

NANTICOKE – Ashley Makarczyk led Nanticoke with 16 service points on
Wednesday in a 25-5, 25-13, 25-9 victory over Pittston Area in Wyoming Valley
Conference girls volleyball.
Courtenay Pientka had seven points, four kills and six digs for the
Trojans, and Caitlin Klish added 11 assists for the Trojans.
Lehman 3, Coughlin 0
LEHMAN TWP. – Savannah Coombs had 15 service points and Megan Strunk played
strong back-row defense as Lake-Lehman won 25-18, 25-15, 25-15.
Melissa Lamb had 13 digs and Jessica Seager added 12 to pace Coughlin.
Michelle Luchetti served seven points.
Tunkhannock 3, Dallas 0
TUNKHANNOCK – Holly Holdredge served 17 points and recorded seven kills as
Tunkhannock won 25-14, 25-11, 25-15.
Kirsten Caveny had eight kills, Carrie Olson served 13 points and Jessica
Shaw added six kills and three blocks.
Hazleton Area 3, GAR 0
WILKES-BARRE – Sara Polchin led the way with four aces, two kills and six
assists as Hazleton Area swept GAR.
Mary Labuz added six aces and Melissa Senick contributed with five kills
for Hazleton.
Tunkhannock 3, Hazleton Area 1
HAZLETON – Holly Holdredge had 37 service points to lead the Tigers to
victory over the Cougars in a WVC match played Friday.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
Berwick 15, WVW 50
BERWICK – Berwick runners took the top 10 spots, led by Matt Bonsall in
Nathan Roth (18:30) finished second, Robert Albertson (19:03) took third
place and Jayson Terdiman (19:42) finished fourth.
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
WVW 17, Berwick 46
BERWICK – Ashley Leland (20:55), Kelley Wiedwald (21:05) and Megan Dreabit
(21:22) took the top three spots as Wyoming Valley West defeated Berwick.
Christa Johnson (21:36) finished in fourth place to lead Berwick.
GIRLS TENNIS
Crestwood 6, Seton Catholic 1
WRIGHT TWP. – Alesha Petrash and Geraldine Fabri won in singles, then
teamed to win at doubles for Crestwood.
Lina Ziegler and Ashley Evans also won in singles for Crestwood.
COLLEGE WOMEN’S TENNIS
SELINSGROVE – King’s College dropped its season-opener, 8-1, at Susquehanna
University on Tuesday. Senior Megan Michael won at No. 1 singles for the
Monarchs.
H.S. FIELD HOCKEY
All 12 games scheduled for Wednesday were washed out.
Dallas at Wyoming Seminary was reset for today (all games 4:15 p.m. unless
noted).
Bishop Hoban at Montrose was rescheduled for tomorrow. GAR at Elk Lake was
tentatively reset for tomorrow.
Coughlin at Lake-Lehman was moved to 7 p.m. Monday under the lights at
Lehman’s football field. Nanticoke at Meyers, Wyoming Valley West at Abington
Heights and Tunkhannock at Crestwood were also moved to Monday.
Northwest at Bishop O’Reilly was moved to Tuesday.
Hazleton Area at Pittston Area was reset for Sept. 17.
No makeup date was available for Hanover Area at Wyoming Area, Honesdale at
Delaware Valley and Berwick at Wallenpaupack.
H.S. SOCCER
All three games were rained out. Seton Catholic at Bishop Hoban was moved
to Monday. Meyers at Hanover Area and GAR at Berwick were rescheduled for
Sept. 15.
H.S. GOLF
Tunkhannock at Pittston Area golf was moved to Tuesday. GAR’s match with
Seton Catholic was washed out, with no makeup date set.
Field hockey vs. Rowan was rescheduled for 4 p.m. Oct. 19 at Rowan. No
makeup date for men’s soccer vs. Muhlenberg was set.
Field hockey at Cedar Crest was postponed, with no makeup date listed.
