HUEYTOWN, Ala. (WIAT) — The Hueytown community remembered NASCAR legend Bobby Allison as his family laid him to rest on Saturday.

It was a somber day in Hueytown as Allison took his final ride down Allison-Bonnet Memorial Drive. Friends, community members and people wanting to pay their respects lined the streets.

"Hueytown honored Bobby a good bit, and he honored Hueytown," said Hueytown resident Mike Elrod.

Elrod and his wife, Julie, stood by as Allison's casket made its way to the cemetery.

"It's a sad day in Hueytown, so we come out here to honor Bobby and just be a part of it," Elrod added.

The procession, complete with a police escort, was guided by fans.

Hueytown resident Kelly Clinton said, "He is really going to be missed. I just cannot say enough about him."

Signs displayed along the road showed just how much Allison meant to the community, and how his friendship and kindness was seen by everyone he interacted with.

"I don't think you could find a better representative for Hueytown; I don't think you could find a better person," Elrod said.

Allison was buried at a Hueytown cemetery during a closed service attended by his family and friends.
