Nashville Predators assign 23 players, including former first-round pick Joakim Kemell to Milwaukee

The Nashville Predators trimmed their roster down to 31 on Sunday, assigning 23 players to their AHL affiliate Milwaukee Admirals ahead of the final week of training camp .

Among those sent to Milwaukee was forward Joakim Kemell, the Predators ' first round pick in 2022.

Kemell, 20, scored 16 goals and had 25 assists in 67 games for the Admirals last year, adding three goals and eight assists in the Calder Cup playoffs. A skilled offensive player, Kemell was expected to compete for a roster spot this year, especially with his power play shooting and goal scoring ability.

However, the Predators' offseason additions of Steven Stamkos and Jonathan Marchessault seem to have displaced the need for Kemell for now — he'll likely spend this year in Milwaukee to further develop his game.

Despite being sent down, coach Andrew Brunette had positive things to say about Kemell's performance against the Lightning in Saturday's preseason win .

"He's a dynamic skater," Brunette said. "Tonight, he worked in his skates, he hounded pucks. That's what we asked him to do and I thought he did it tonight."

Among others assigned Sunday were Magnus Chrona, the goaltender Nashville acquired from San Jose in exchange for Yaroslav Askarov, and Lucas Johansen, the brother of former Predators' forward Ryan Johansen.
