National Adoption Month kicks off with heartwarming story of Tyler's new beginning

November is National Adoption Month, and we are excited to kick it off with an update on one of the children we featured not too long ago. Tyler who was praying to find a home before turning 18, has now been adopted!

We sat down with him and his mom to hear all about their new life together.

"When I did my adoption video, I felt like great and I had a good time," Tyler says. "My whole plan was to get adopted."

And Tyler now has that family he was hoping for.

"I met Tyler when I was working," says his mother, Kolanda. "I am working in a group home, and from the first day, he was just the kid that I wanted to have."

With the love of his forever family, Tyler is continuing to flourish. Kolanda saw his potential and she's helping him thrive.

"I'm just glad I found Tyler," Kolanda says. "Teaching him new things, making memories, and showing him new experiences. He's sweet. He's always been caring. I don't treat him no different from my other children or my nieces and nephews. He just fits right in. Everybody loves Tyler. He is a dancing machine."

Tyler now has two little sisters.

"Tyler is a great big brother to his two little sisters." Kolanda says. "He's very helpful with them."

Kolanda has this advice for people who only want to adopt younger children.

"The teenagers should get a shot just like the kids. They're good kids," she says. "Don't always think that it'll be better to adopt a smaller baby, because the teenagers definitely need you, as well."

If you are wondering why you haven't seen children in our weekly series recently, it's because a new law was passed that no longer allows children in the foster care system to be shown to the public.
