Nature’s Way was a pioneer of organic food in Easton. 50 years later, it’s still going strong.

The original owners of Nature's Way in Easton were trendsetters, store manager Amanda Leather said.

When the store opened in 1975, Leather said it introduced organic and natural products way ahead of the trend. Now, the store's 50th anniversary is approaching.

Nature's Way is gearing up to celebrate this milestone on April 26, 2025. Located at 143 Northampton St. in Easton, the store plans to host a day of events for the anniversary that the public is invited to attend, Leather said.

Nature's Way offers a diverse range of bulk products, including produce, meats, dairy, honey, supplements, body care, nuts, granola, spices and more. The store encourages customers to bring their own containers to reduce plastic waste, Leather said. The store composts, recycles and reuses items as often as possible.

"We try to be as sustainable as possible," she said.

Nature's Way partners with The Easton Hunger Coalition to distribute food to food banks and shelters.

While details are still being finalized, the anniversary will feature local farms, vendors, educational talks on honey and its ecological importance, yoga sessions and herb walks, Leather said.

"We think this is a huge milestone to still be here 50 years later as a small business," Leather said.

The store hosted a similar event for its 40th anniversary in 2015, which featured a day-long celebration of food sampling, music and sales.

Nature's Way was founded by David Harder when he was 24. He previously told lehighvalleylive.com that he lived by the philosophy of "in order to be healthy, you have to eat healthy."

He originally ran the store with his two partners, Earl Smith and Paul Stangil. He eventually took the reins, along with his wife Linda.

Since the 40th anniversary, Nature's Way has undergone some changes.

Ownership changed eight years ago to Karen and Shalom Neuman, and the store has undergone cosmetic changes that improved its layout. Leather said inventory has expanded over the past several years to include eggs, coffee, baked goods, pre-made food and herbal extracts.

Nature's Way continues to prioritize local sourcing, providing products from nearby farms. Leather said the store staff ensures the quality of their products by supporting brands and local farms that they trust and know personally.

"We try to keep as many things as local as possible," Leather said. "a lot of our refrigerated products and all of our meats are local."

As a local small business, Leather said Nature's Way offers a wide selection of grocery and household needs while fostering a strong connection with other local businesses.

"It's kind of like a chain effect," Leather said. "When you support us, then we're able to put the money back into supporting other local farmers and vendors."
