NBA launches investigation into allegations against Thunder guard Josh Giddey
The NBA is looking into allegations that Oklahoma City Thunder shooting guard Josh Giddey, 21, had an inappropriate relationship with a minor. The age of consent in Oklahoma is 16.
According to the Daily Mail, provocative videos and pictures appeared on social media earlier this week showing Giddey with a girl of unknown age. One image that allegedly shows the Australian native with the girl is captioned, "just f***ed josh giddey."
ESPN indicated that a since-deleted viral post from an anonymous poster whose account has been deactivated alleged the girl was a high school junior around the time the pictures were taken.
NBA spokesman Mike Bass spokesman confirmed the league was investigating the matter, reported the Athletic.
When asked about the allegations at practice on Friday, both Giddey and Thunder coach Mark Daigneault declined to comment.
Daigneault responded , "Personal matter and I have no comment on it. And that will be my answer on anything related."
"I understand the question, obviously," Giddey told reporters. "No further comment right now."
When pressed further, Giddey said , "I get the question guys. I completely understand you guys want to know about it. But just for right now, I don't have anything to say."
Giddey, the first NBA Global Academy graduate to be selected in the NBA draft, was the No. 6 pick in 2021. He is presently averaging 12.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game.
The 11-4 Thunder play Saturday against the visiting 76ers.
