NC State women's basketball climbs into AP Poll top-10
NC State women’s basketball started the season unranked. Two weeks into the year, and the Pack has solidified a spot in the Associated Press top-10 after improving to 4-0 Sunday against Rhode Island.
Utah (4-1) is tied with NC State at the No. 10 spot in the poll. Both teams received 518 points.
When the program defeated UConn, ranked No. 2 at the time, it quickly rose into the rankings at No. 14. The Wolfpack followed that up with wins over Elon and Rhode Island, leading to another four-spot jump. NC State heads into its St. Thomas, USVI, trip with plenty of positive momentum.
During the Paradise Jam tournament, the Pack will play games against Kentucky (Nov. 23), Cincinnati (Nov. 24) and Colorado (Nov. 25). After upsetting LSU earlier in the season, the Buffaloes are now ranked No. 3 nationally.
NC State is one of 6 ACC squads to crack the top-25, joining No. 9 Virginia Tech, No. 13 Florida State, No. 17 Notre Dame, No. 18 UNC and No. 20 Louisville.
The Wolfpack needed a strong fourth quarter to pull away from Rhode Island Sunday afternoon. After the game, head coach Wes Moore explained how that matchup sets the program up for its upcoming thanksgiving tournament.
“It’s very similar type teams,” Moore said. “They’re going to be aggressive, they’re going to pressure you, they’re going to be crashing the offensive boards, they’re going to be attacking the rim. Yeah, I think it is a good opportunity to maybe build on what we learned today.”
