WASHINGTON, DC — A second suspect wanted in connection with an October shooting at Morgan State University that wounded five people and prompted an hours-long lockdown has been arrested, according to a report citing police.

Jovan Williams, 18, was arrested in Washington, D.C. and charged with attempted first-degree murder and other counts, according to a WJZ report . His arrest came more than a month after authorities took the first suspect into custody.

"The Morgan State community has been forced to grapple with the violent, reckless decision of a few individuals who had no regard for the lives around them," Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott said in a statement reported by WJZ. "I hope that this will be a sign to everyone that if you come into Baltimore City, endanger lives, and injure people, we will not rest until you are held accountable."

The shooting happened Oct. 3 shortly before 9:30 p.m. after the coronation of Mister & Miss Morgan State at the Murphy Fine Arts Center as students headed to a campus ball for the university's homecoming celebration.

Five people — four men and one woman between the ages of 18 and 22 — were injured in the shooting, police said.

A 17-year-old boy was arrested on Oct. 12 and charged in connection with the shooting, police said. The boy, whom authorities did not identify due to his age, was taken to Baltimore's Central Booking Intake Facility where he was charged with multiple counts of attempted murder.

Authorities issued an arrest warrant for Williams the same day, police said.
