Neighbor describes harrowing scene after child allegedly hit by car in central Bakersfield

W.Johnson25 min ago

Neighbor Sebastian Cruz said he heard a lot of people screaming and crying, following a supposed crash that injured a child Wednesday afternoon in central Bakersfield. Eyewitness News has learned of reports from neighbors that a child was struck at Holtby Road and Bank Street just before 2 p.m., but police have not confirmed that at this time.

Cruz said he saw a little kid's bike with blood on the car. "It was clear that a kid probably got run over," he said.

"People drive pretty fast on this street all the time," said Cruz. "It's a wide street. And they feel that they can't hit anything. They get too comfortable on wide streets." Cruz said there was so much noise he thought there was a fight. He heard a woman crying and saw her on the ground. Eyewitness News is working to learn more from the Bakersfield Police Department which is investigating the incident. The condition of the child is unknown at this time.
