Netflix fans are convinced Selena Gomez made a major faux pas in a scene from her new film Emilia Perez .

The 32-year-old actress was called out by a number of movie enthusiasts on social media for looking directly into the camera while filming.

A clip of Gomez was shared on X, which sees her having a heated argument on the phone, and making eye contact with the camera, with fans calling it a 'crucial mistake.'

'Oops! Selena Gomez commits acting sin by looking directly at the camera in Emilia Perez!' one fan wrote.

'Guess she broke the fourth wall a bit,' another added.

'Oh my god is it meant to be like that I feel like I'm having a sensory overload,' another one asked.

'This might be the worst acting performance of the year omg,' someone else chimed in.

Others also took issue with the third generation American-Mexican star's Spanish, writing, 'Her Spanish is god awful.'

The comments continued, with one person writing 'Worst acting ever.'

However, there were also commentators who believed the Selena looking into the camera was an artistic choice.

'Directing choice or mistake? Selena might be breaking the fourth wall on purpose for her character's depth.'

'It's very intentional and happens a lot during the movie.'

'I think it was meant to be that way simply because there were enough cuts and angles to not have used that shot during post. The editors may have left it this way intentionally. I mean, I haven't seen it so I don't know that context and could be COMPLETELY wrong but as someone who edits daily, this seems to be intentional.'

On Saturday night Gomez made a stylish appearance at Netflix and Elle' s second annual Latinas in Hollywood event.

The star — who recently made a rare statement about Wizards of Waverly Place — looked chic in a black, leather trench coat with an exaggerated plush collar.

The fashionista tied the outerwear's coordinating belt around her waist and rounded out the ensemble with pointy-toe black, leather boots.

The brunette beauty flashed her megawatt smile as she arrived with her lustrous, sleek, bob haircut styled in a center part with bumped ends.

The yearly event honored Gomez's new film, which also stars Zoe Saldana , 46, and Karla Sofía Gascón, 52.

The trio landed one of several covers for Elle magazine's latest issue, Women in Hollywood.

Zoe takes on the role of Rita in the Spanish language film, which has a musical element, while Selena portrays the character Jessi Del Monte.

The movie is set in Mexico and tells the story of a lawyer who receives 'an unexpected offer to help a feared cartel boss retire from his business and disappear forever by becoming the woman he's always dreamed of being,' according to an IMDb synopsis.

It won the Jury Prize during the 77th Cannes Film Festival in May, and the female ensemble won the Best Actress award.

Per an account from Elle , Editor-in-Chief Nina Garcia gushed to guests at Saturday's affair, 'What a miracle of a movie this is.

'It is surprising and moving and audacious, unlike anything I have ever seen. But, most of all, it is a complete original. As a fellow storyteller, I know this is the hardest thing to achieve, and when we do it well, it is the most satisfying.'

She added, 'When I look around this room, I see the diversity within our community. You all bring such an incredible range of backgrounds and special talents. But I also see our unity.'

Gomez also touched on the subject of community as she reflected in the magazine cover story: 'The sisterhood ended up becoming what got us through. It's still getting me through. I'm so glad that I'm not doing a bunch of scary things on my own.'

Christina Milian, 43, wore a black and white suit-inspired mini dress.

Sisters Madison Reed and Victoria Justice were also present for the celebration, each turning heads in sexy looks.

Reed, 28, looked phenomenal in a strapless, berry-colored leather dress that showed off her busty chest.

Meanwhile, 31-year-old Victoria opted for a sheer black outfit consisting of a button-up shirt with solid trim and a long, pleated skirt.

The getup was punctuated by a pair of backless black heels with a pointy toe and bow detail.

Her lengthy, glossy brunette locks were parted on one side and tucked behind her ear as they flowed over one side of her chest.

Actress Stephanie Beatriz dazzled in a nude-toned dress with sequins.

The 43-year-old Encanto star looked beautiful as she smiled for red carpet photos.

About what drew her to the Jacques Audiard-directed drama, Zoe recently told Variety it 'felt provocative, audacious, original, and operatic.'

Zoe, who was raised in New York and the Dominican Republic, was also asked what it was like to speak Spanish on the silver screen.

'If you live a day in the life of my crazy circus of a household, English is probably a language that we use when the kids are out of school,' she explained.

She added: 'When the kids are in school, everybody goes back to their child language, and the language that was first spoken to me — that was sung to me, that I received love in — was Spanish.

'I do become a different person. I use different tones in my voice when I speak Spanish. So it felt wonderful. It felt like going home.'
