What's your favorite clam chowder or soup? You'll have a chance to compare and contrast on Saturday, October 12 at the 19th Annual Blount Fine Foods New Bedford Seaport Chowderfest, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Pier 3 on the city's waterfront.

One SouthCoast Chamber puts on Chowderfest every year, and Katie Greene, Vice President of Marketing and Events, stopped by Townsquare Sunday to give us the details.

Chowderfest has always been a good draw in New Bedford, with plenty of locals supporting the event, along with people from around the state and around the country.

"I've sent tickets this year to Iowa, Texas and North Carolina, plus other parts of (Massachusetts)," Greene said. "It's a local event to us but it generates lots of interest elsewhere."

Once inside the giant tent on Pier 3, hungry visitors will be able to sample chowders and soups from 15 different restaurants and then vote on their favorites. Serving will stop around 3 p.m.

The band Be Kind Rewind will perform throughout the event, and there will be activities for children, including face painting with volunteers from the Global Learning Charter Public School in New Bedford.

Tickets for Chowderfest are on sale right now for $15 on the One SouthCoast Chamber website and will be available at the will-call window on the day of the event. Tickets can also be purchased that day at the door for $20.

VIP tickets are also on sale for $75. It will include a spot on the Black Whale VIP Deck with chowder samples from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and tastings from the Black Whale restaurant menu from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
