New H-Mart store in Urbana nears completion

URBANA, IL (WCIA) — The City of Urbana is getting closer to finishing the construction on the new H-Mart building. The store will have Asian and western cuisines, a food court and a bakery. St. Joseph non-profit raising money to build $3 million community center near sports complex City Officials said the project should be completed Dec. 18th. "It's really going to be a catalyst for downtown to bring more people and, you know, have more variety of food options for our residents. And hopefully it brings visitors as well," Andrea Ruedi, senior advisor for integrated strategy development, said. She said in January they'll have a grand opening and a hiring event on site. With Thanksgiving less than two weeks away, Walmart, Target, Aldi and other grocers are competing for a place on holiday tables with turkey dinner deals and other promotions to tempt Americans who haven't recovered from recent food price inflation. Walmart, the nation's largest food retailer, first bundled the makings of a traditional turkey feast into a meal deal three years ago. This year, the 29-item offer, which includes a frozen turkey and ingredients for side dishes, costs less than $55 and is intended to serve eight.
