New Mexico sees lower gas prices across state

Sep. 30—Many of New Mexico's metropolitan areas saw gas prices continue to dip to around $3 per gallon last week.

Down 5 cents from the week prior, the statewide average price per gallon of unleaded fuel was $3.02 as of Sept. 26, according to AAA New Mexico Weekend Gas Watch. That was 76 cents less than the same time a year ago and 20 cents less than last week's national average of $3.22.

The Farmington area saw the highest average price last week at $3.48 — an 8-cent decrease from the week before. Santa Fe saw the lowest average price at $2.83, down 11 cents from the week before. Albuquerque also saw an 11-cent decrease to $2.94.

It's uncertain if the declining prices will continue. New data from the Energy Information Administration revealed an increase in demand up to 9.2 million barrels a day and a decrease in Gulf Coast supply, falling to 81.2 million barrels per day.

AAA Texas/New Mexico spokesperson Daniel Armbruster said in a news release prices are expected to remain lower as supply transitions to winter-blend gas for the fast-approaching colder months, but fluctuations are possible in light of supply-and-demand changes.
