New Mexico State Police Crime Suppression Unit Take Two Drug Traffickers And A Car Thief Off Streets

ALBUQUERQUE — Nov. 9, 2023, the New Mexico State Police (NMSP) Crime Suppression Unit along with New Mexico State Police Special Operations were searching for Daylen Medina, 20, of Albuquerque who was a wanted felon.

Medina was wanted for Aggravated Assault, and Battery on a Police Officer. He also had a violent history of Aggravated Burglary with a Deadly Weapon, Trespassing, and Resisting, Evading, or Obstructing an Officer.

Agents located Medina at around 5 p.m. in the parking lot of Walmart at Eubank and Copper. When agents attempted to arrest Medina, he resisted them and fled on foot. After a short foot pursuit, Medina was successfully taken into custody.

During the incident, a loaded handgun fell from his waistband. Narcotics and a firearm were also seen in Medina’s vehicle, so it was taken as evidence and is pending a search warrant.

Later that evening at around 11 p.m., the Crime Suppression Unit working with the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office located a stolen vehicle at the Union 505 apartment complex on the 800 block of Locust Place Northeast occupied by an individual later identified as Dominic Montoya.

Agents devised a plan to safely take Montoya, who was on probation for drug trafficking, into custody. Agents were able to arrest Montoya without incident.
