Freshman Matt Kaskie’s fill-in role for Jeff Marshman will last through the
season.

Wilkes University head coach Frank Sheptock said Marshman will sit out the
final two weeks as a precaution after a concussion two weeks ago during the
Moravian game.
Marshman underwent a CAT scan and an MRI among other tests. Sheptock said
he is fine, but likely more susceptible to suffer another concussion if he
suited up anymore this year.

The Colonels, who are mired in three-game losing streak, visit Lebanon
Valley at 1 p.m. Saturday.

“Are our youthful kids mature enough to go down there and play like they
played last week?” questioned Sheptock, whose team was tough in last week’s

have a chance to win the game.”

Sheptock expects to add a few more plays to the game plan for Kaskie this
week. Kaskie threw for 130 yards and one touchdown against Lycoming and rushed
for another score.

“He can beat you with his feet just as well as he could beat you with his
arm, so we need to be able to take advantage of that,” Sheptock said. “He’s
just got that gunslinger mentality like, `I’m going to go in and do what I got
to do and create.’ I said he’s going to be a fun kid to watch and he’s just
going to get better.”

Wide receiver Chris Banyas connected with Kaskie last week. He caught five
passes for 130 yards and a touchdown.

The Colonel offensive line, which consists of Mike Liberski, Tim Letcher,
Tom Wighard, Jason Holloway, Joe Ziegler and Darron Fadden, has stepped up its
play. The line didn’t allow a sack last week for the first time in three
seasons. The unit also paved the way for tailback Brett Trichilo, who has
eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark.

Wilkes (3-5 overall, 3-4 Middle Atlantic Conference) is led defensively by
the linebacker corps of Mike DaRe and Steve Rogers, who combined for 116
tackles thus far.

Lebanon Valley (1-7, 1-6) won its first game last week in a 56-48 shootout
against Delaware Valley. Quarterback Dallas Noll, the MAC’s offensive player
of the week, threw for 315 yards and five scores in the victory. For the
season, Noll has completed 97 of 218 passes for 1,403 yards, eight touchdowns
and 14 interceptions.

The Lebanon Valley defense is last in the MAC, giving up 417.9 yards in
total offense and 35.9 points per game. Chad Hoofnagle has amassed 101 tackles
to lead the unit.

Wilkes holds a 15-14 edge in the series, including six consecutive
victories. Last season, the Colonels dismantled the Flying Dutchmen 55-0.
