New Rochelle Police Launch Voluntary Special Needs Registry Program

The New Rochelle Police Department has launched a new Special Needs Registry, aimed at improving communications and safety for individuals with special needs in our community. This voluntary registry allows families and caregivers to provide valuable information on challenges like mobility, communication, or mental health issues that will be readily available to Police Officers responding to a call for service. The goal is to ensure that first responders are aware of any medical, behavioral or communications challenges that could impact their interactions as they render assistance in emergency situations.

"This initiative will help our service members protect and serve the most vulnerable members of our community, and ensure they and those caring for them feel understood, supported and safe," said Police Commissioner Robert Gazzola.

This confidential information will be securely stored and only accessed by police officers when responding to an emergency at the individual's registered address. Participation in the registry is entirely voluntary and can be updated at any time to reflect current needs. To register, fill out the online form or pick up a form at New Rochelle Police Department Headquarters, 475 North Avenue.
