YORK COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — The new superintendent for a school district in York County was charged with DUI after an early Friday morning traffic investigation, according to State Police.

Joseph Bradley, 51, of Johnstown, was found to be DUI when Troopers "conducted a mere encounter" just after 2:30 a.m. on the 100 block of S. Forney Avenue in Hanover, State Police at Gettysburg said in a news release Sunday. State Police did not release what Bradley's BAC was.

Bradley began his role as the superintendent for Spring Grove Area School District on July 1 , just a few days after being charged.

In a statement posted onto the Spring Grove Area School District's website, Bradley apologized, saying he "made a regretful error in judgement" and that he "takes responsibility for that decision."

"On Thursday, June 27th, I made a regretful error in judgment while dealing with personal turmoil," the statement reads. "I take responsibility for that decision. As a school employee and, more importantly, as a father, I am disappointed in my actions. I remorsefully acknowledge the impact my choices had on others."
