NEWARK, NJ — A free festival that combines music and architecture is returning to the Brick City this weekend.

Newark Porchfest 2024 will take place from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28 in the city's Forest Hill Historic District. It will include more than 40 musicians, visual artists, and dancers at more than 30 venues. Guests can pick up an event guide and map at the Ballantine Gates (located at the intersection of Ballantine Parkway and Lake Street) or download a digital version from newarkporchfest.com .

Here's what to expect, organizers say:

"Newark PorchFest is a free, family-friendly celebration of the arts hosted annually in the beloved Forest Hill Historic District of Newark, NJ. Musical, visual, and spoken word artists use neighborhood porches, stoops, and lawns to showcase their talents. Artists range from amateur to professional and represent a diverse range of genres and artistic styles. Attendees walk, take complementary shuttles, ride bikes or scooters, or push strollers as they move from one porch to another throughout the neighborhood to partake in the festivities."

Before Porchfest kicks off, families are invited to Kid's Fest from 11 a.m. to noon, featuring a performance of "Peter and the Wolf" by The New Jersey Symphony Chamber Players, along with other child-friendly activities. A variety of food trucks will also be available throughout the day.

The rain date is Sunday, Sept. 29. Learn more about this local event here .
