NFL Trade Deadline 2024: Seattle Seahawks elect not to make additional moves

The 2024 NFL trade deadline has come and gone, and the Seattle Seahawks have opted to hold firm. No one incoming, no one outgoing.

This is not to say the Seahawks didn't make significant moves before the deadline. Defensive lineman Roy Robertson-Harris was acquired for a 2026 sixth-round pick , while inside linebacker Ernest Jones IV was traded from the Tennessee Titans to Seattle in exchange for fellow linebacker Jerome Baker and a 2025 fourth-rounder.

I suppose the most notable story of the day was a non-story that we've heard before. ESPN's Adam Schefter said that despite speculation, the Seahawks were not sending away star receiver DK Metcalf. Jeremy Fowler added that teams called Seattle, and presumably not entertained by John Schneider.

This does not mean, however, that the Seahawks aren't going to be making some critical decisions regarding the 53-man roster over the next couple of weeks.

Josh Jobe over Tre Brown, or Josh Jobe and Tre Brown?! "Yeah, we're going to have to make a couple of personnel decisions this week, so that'll be on the docket for sure," Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald said on Monday.

That line was in reference to whether or not practice squad cornerback Josh Jobe, who's now out of gameday elevations, has done enough to earn a spot on the active roster. Jobe has taken all of Brown's snaps over the past two weeks despite Brown being available on gameday. If minimal practice against the Buffalo Bills was the reasonable excuse for Brown, who had been dealing with an ankle injury, then not even playing in the Los Angeles Rams game despite no injury designation is a sign he's potentially in the dog house. His last full game was a poor showing against the New York Giants , but he'd also been a solid starter last season. The operative words there are "last season," under a different coaching staff.

Jobe hasn't been setting the world ablaze with All-Pro level play, but he does have an interception off of Josh Allen and a couple of passes defensed. It was more than reasonable to think Brown could've been on the trade block this week, but he remains for now.

If Jobe is signed, someone has to be let go.

Abe Lucas coming off PUP soon? Macdonald said "there is a chance" starting right tackle Abe Lucas makes his 2024 regular season debut against the San Francisco 49ers after the bye week. If he's not activated off of the PUP list by November 13, he'll revert to PUP and his season will be over. However, if he's activated, then someone else will be bumped off the roster to make room for him.

Other Seahawks personnel changes? Macdonald was asked about what was on the table regarding personnel, training, and schematic changes with regards to righting the ship.

"All of the above," he said. "I think we're doing a lot of good things, but if you go in kind of just with a myopic view of, 'Hey, it's only over here,' then you might miss something. I don't want to miss something. So, let's go through it with a fine-tooth comb and let's be honest and let's go."

It's hard to ignore Cody White getting 35 snaps in his practice squad elevation against the Los Angeles Rams. Laviska Shenault Jr played three snaps on offense and has not as much caught a pass beyond five yards of the line of scrimmage. It took White one game to get a pair of catches for 44 yards and exceed Shenault's receiving total for the season and Dareke Young's entire career.

This isn't to say Shenault is getting cut when he's the primary kick returner, but if White impressed enough for some more playing time then we could see an adjustment made after the bye week.

So while the Seahawks did nothing on Tuesday, expect some more movement on the active roster in the coming days.
