Nipomo High School and Central Coast New Tech High School sheltered in place Thursday morning after receiving an anonymous threat, San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Tony Cipolla said.

Sheriff's deputies arrived at Nipomo High School to investigate the threat at 9:30 a.m.

"Sheriff's deputies are on site and checking out the situation and making sure students and staff are safe," Cipolla wrote in a statement to The Tribune.

Lucia Mar Unified School District spokesperson Amy Jacobs sent an email at 10:43 a.m. telling people not to go to either campus.

"While we continue to work with law enforcement, students and staff are safe in their classrooms," she wrote. "We are committed to student safety. We are keeping families informed."

Both high schools are located at 525 Thompson Avenue in Nipomo.
