A wildfire in Morris County that broke out Thursday night has burned 170 acres but is now 50% contained, fire officials said Saturday.

The state Forest Fire Service announced Saturday it had made "substantial progress" as firefighters battle the fire in the area of Notch Rd. and Green Pond Road, near Rockaway Township's Craigmeur Recreation Complex.

The voluntary evacuations of eight homes along Green Pond Road have been lifted and no structures are threatened on Saturday.

On Friday evening, 13 structures were at risk at the then-140 acre wildfire was 30% contained, officials said.

Another update is expected at 8 p.m.

No rain is expected for the next several days in the area.

The blaze coincided with a 120-acre wildfire in Downe Township in Cumberland County and another smaller fire in Pennsauken in Camden County.
