N.J. man used social media app to proposition undercover agent posing as boy, officials say

A 48-year-old man from Essex County has been arrested and charged with trying to engage in sexual relations with a child, the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office announced Thursday. Jonar Arenas, of Bloomfield, is charged with second-degree luring, second-degree attempted sexual assault of a minor, and attempted child endangerment, authorities said. In August, authorities opened an investigation into Arenas after a detective monitoring a social media app was contacted by him, the prosecutor's office said. Arenas allegedly attempted to set up a sexual encounter with the detective, who he believed was a 14-year-old boy. Arenas was arrested Wednesday and transported to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution pending a future court appearance.
