N.J. weather: Warmer weather ahead after unusually chilly November weekend

W.Johnson3 months ago
New Jersey’s weather will take a turn for the warmer as the week progresses, following a chilly weekend and start to the week with sub-freezing temperatures.

Forecasters say temperatures will reach into the mid-to low-60s by Thursday and Friday. But don’t hang your winter coats back up just yet. Sunday’s highs will be in the high 40s, and the overnight low into Monday will dip into the 20s, according to the National Weather Service .

Those temperatures are colder than usual, but nowhere near record breaking.

Newark would have to drop to 22 degrees to match its record low for Nov. 13, while Atlantic City would have to hit 21 degrees, and Trenton would have to dip to 19 degrees, according to data from the weather service.

Freeze warnings

Even though many areas of New Jersey will experience sub-freezing temperatures on Sunday and Monday mornings, official freeze warnings or frost advisories will not be issued by the National Weather Service, because the growing season is now over.

The growing season came to an end Nov. 2 and Nov. 3, when a hard freeze occurred across most of the Garden State two mornings in a row.

However, if homeowners have any outdoor plants that are still alive, those plants can be protected by being covered or moved indoors the next two nights.

Dry trend continues

Worth noting: Despite the cold temperatures, this weekend will likely shape up as New Jersey’s second straight weekend with no rain — following eight consecutive weekends with measurable rain reported in many areas of the state.

Some of those weekends were total washouts, with rain falling on both Saturday and Sunday, and some had rain on either Saturday or Sunday.
