Normally, I have some sort of sponsored watch party at a bar somewhere on Saturday and/or a Houston Texans game to cover and broadcast on Sunday. This weekend, I have none of those things. So I plan on doing four things — sleeping, eating, drinking, and sitting on the couch watching sports. All weekend, starting on Friday evening. It's going to be glorious, not just because of the slice of Americana I'll be experiencing, but the sports watching gods have made this one of the most intriguing and diverse three day watch periods in recent memory. Allow me to take you on the journey that I intend to travel this weekend. Come with me, here are the games, with a sentence or two as to why each of them matter: FRIDAY, November 15Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson, 7 p.m. (Netflix) We begin the weekend with a spectacle that was promised to us back in July, and pushed to November. Social media star Jake Paul takes on nearly 60-year-old Mike Tyson in an eight round boxing match that has a chance to be a real train wreck. Netflix continues its foray into live sports. Clippers at Rockets, 7 p.m. (SCHN) This is the second of two games between these two teams this week. Rockets won the first on Wednesday night, 111-103. Another chance to smoke James Harden's latest team is always fun. Split the screen with the Tyson-Paul fight! U of H at Arizona, 9:15 p.m. (FS1) Oh nice! Some late night Friday Coog action! Ccoogs have won three out of four, and they're coming off a bye after defeating Kansas State at home two weeks ago. The quest for bowl eligibility in Willie Fritz's first season is well within reach. Onto Saturday.... SATURDAY, November 16Texas is forecasted to have a 95 percent chance to make the College Football Playoff. Three games remain, and Fayetteville should be fired up for this one. This is an old Southwest Conference matchup that's now being played, once again, in the SOUTHEASTERN conference. Utah at 17 Colorado, 11 a.m. (FOX) Coach Prime has his Buffaloes in a position where, even though they are well outside the top 12 in the rankings, they control their own destiny for the playoffs, because if they win out, they'll win the Big XII title. Utah has been one of the best programs in college football the last decade, but they're in a down year this season. Boston College at 14 SMU, 2:30 p.m. (ESPN) If you want to watch Bill O'Brien coach again, Houston, and you know you do, then check in on the Boston College Eagles trying to play spoiler on SMU's dream season in their first season in the ACC. Like Colorado, the Mustangs are on the playoff outside looking in right now, but if they win out, they'll win the ACC and get an automatic berth. These are two teams looking to get the stink of failure off them from last week — LSU losing to Alabama at home, 42-13, and Florida getting run off the field by Texas, 49-17. Brian Kelly losing to Florida here would be a major bonus for people who hate jerks. Boise State right now represents the non Power Four schools in the playoff, if the season ended today. This is one of their final real tests, against 6-3 San Jose State. Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty might be the best player in the country. He is worth tuning in for, by himself. The marquee matchup of the week, in terms of rankings for both teams. If the season ended today, Georgia, two time champion in the playoff era, would be left out. The Bulldogs will be looking to make a statement, as they've looked pedestrian of late. Kansas at 6 BYU, 9:15 p.m. BYU would represent the Big XII currently in the playoff. They're undefeated, but nearly lost to Utah a week ago. Kansas is the best 3-6 team of the last decade. More than anything else, it's football that will take me through midnight. Now, onto the NFL on Sunday..... SUNDAY, November 17Green Bay at Chicago, Noon Our first look at Caleb Williams with a new offensive play caller, as the Bears fired OCC Shane Waldron this week. Green Bay is looking to build momentum for a late season push. These two teams traditionally hate each other, so that's always fun. Indianapolis at NY Jets, Noon Anthony Richardson is back in the driver's seat for the Colts, as Joe Flacco goes to the bench. The 4-6 Colts are a couple more losses away from handing the division over to the Texans. Aaron Rodgers is the Jets QB, though, and I hate him, so I have no idea for whom to root. Baltimore at Pittsburgh, Noon This is arguably the best rivalry in all of football, and a battle for supremacy in the AFC North. The Texans play the Ravens on Christmas Day, so this is a chance to piss myself for three hours with anxiety over wondering how the hell the Texans plan on tackling Derrick Henry and Lamar Jackson. Kansas City at Buffalo, 3:25 p.m. One of the marquee matchups every season, the Chiefs eliminated the Bills from the playoffs (again) last season on a missed field goal by Bills kicker Tyler Bass. The Chiefs are undefeated, but they've been winning games in incredibly lucky fashion all year long. Sunday might be their day of reckoning. Rockets at Bulls, 6 p.m. We started with hoops on Friday, so let's finish with hoops on Sunday, as the Rockets (still red hot, hopefully) head to Chicago to take on the Bulls.
