(WCBD)- A non-profit in the Lowcountry broke ground today on a much-needed addition, after receiving a $125,000 grant from Lowe's Home Improvement.

The founder of Jean's Angels says this will give them the ability to serve more people in our community.

Jean's Angels is dedicated to serving underprivileged people throughout the community, and today the community is giving back.

"Kind of a tag team effort helping get done painting this fence and a couple of other things around the property," Manager of Goose Creek Lowe's.

The non-profit in Goose Creek gives unhoused people the chance to start over, with access to a clean bed, warm shower, food, drinks, and weekly counseling services.

Just last year they served over 28,000 people.

"Jean's Angels started our hope for the homeless in 2020 during COVID. We built the laundry trailer and also the shower trailer," the founder of Jean's Angels, Katrina Carpenter said.

As Jean's Angels works tirelessly to provide for people, today a team of Lowe's employees around the Lowcountry, giving the property some TLC and also building them a place to house all of their resources, as right now they have their resources in different storage units across the Lowcountry.

"Being able to condense into one building will be amazing," Carpenter said.

Carpenter says the convenience is great, but more importantly, it'll allow them to serve people more often, "Most importantly it'll allow us to serve families 4 days a week. Instead of us having our giveaways once a month, or once every two months, now we're able to serve the community 4 days a week to provide them much-needed essential items for them and their families.."

Carpenter says they're expecting the building to be finished in a month and a half.
