Norma Powell Remillard, 91, of Aurora, passed away peacefully at Auburn Community Hospital on Sept. 17.

Norma June Powell was born in Malone, NY on March 23, 1933, the daughter of Howard Powell and Marion Wilson Powell. She grew up in Malone where she married to her longtime school-mate Marcel Remillard in1952.

In 1963 Norma and Marcel left Malone and made the Finger lakes their new home.

Norma was a member of the Ithaca square dance club and in later years enjoyed spending evenings at Auburn's west-end McDonalds with a group of senior citizen friends. She loved music, playing the organ at home and joining other players for a get together. She loved animals, feeding the outdoor birds, and spent her final years with her special cat Herkie whom she loved dearly.

Norma enjoyed camping and being near nature. She would often make homemade doughnuts for kids at the campground. In her travels she always enjoyed visiting historical houses and homes. Norma loved growing different varieties of roses as well as sunflowers and decorating the house for Christmas.

Norma was an avid crafts person, having made many furnished and lit doll houses. She was affectionately called The Doll House Lady by her friends and acquaintances. She displayed her houses at different local events and enjoyed answering the questions of the many children that would gather around. She enjoyed crocheting blankets to give to friends and relatives as well as needle point.

Norma was predeceased by her parents, her 4-year-old sister June, and her eldest son Rory (Ann-Marie Lauretti). Survivors include Marcel, her loving husband of 72 years, daughter Dawn Gray of King Ferry, her son Joey (Diana Bunnell-Remillard) of Aurora, her brother John (Ingrid) Powell of Biloxi, MS, four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews in the U.S. and Canada.

In accordance with her wishes there will be no services or memorial, just thoughts and remembrances. If anyone wishes, they can donate to a charity of their choice.

We would like to thank the wonderful CCU staff at Auburn Community Hospital for the excellent care, compassion, and friendship they gave Norma.
