North Carolina man wanted for murder arrested on drug charges in South Carolina
HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — A North Carolina man wanted for murder in Chesterfield County is behind bars in Horry County after his arrest on a drug charge on Saturday, according to a police report.
Horry County police arrested Jamison Jashawn Chambers of Wingate, North Carolina, and another man after stopping a vehicle for speeding on Highway 501 near Conway. According to an arrest warrant, Chambers was a passenger in the car, which was going 64 mph in a 45 mph speed zone.
During the traffic stop, officers found a loaded Smith and Wesson handgun, 2.2 grams of methamphetamine pills and 14.3 grams of what was believed to be marijuana inside the car.
Chambers remains in the J. Reuben Long Detention Center, where he is charged with distribution of meth. He was given a $10,000 bond. The second person arrested was given a citation for simple possession of marijuana and released.
News13 has reached out to Chesterfield County authorities for more details about the murder investigation and Chamber's role in the death.
Chambers was also arrested in July in Monroe, North Carolina, and charged with driving while impaired and child abuse after authorities stopped his vehicle for having an expired license plate, according to WJZY, News13's sister station in Charlotte.
At the time, WJZY also reported that he was wanted for murder in Chesterfield County and had fugitive warrants including failing to appear on charges of murder, possessing a weapon during a violent crime and armed robbery.
He was booked into the Union County Detention Center on several charges, including carrying a concealed weapon, driving while impaired, child abuse, possession of marijuana up to one-half ounce, having an expired registration/tag and having an expired inspection sticker but was never extradited to South Carolina to face the murder charge.
It's unclear when he was released from jail in North Carolina.
