A group of quilters has spent months working on military-themed quilts for the Mellon Heritage Foundation, and on Friday, they showed off their work.

The Quilts for Veterans project started last spring when a member of the organization visited the new veteran's facility on the former Mercyhurst campus in North East.

"It was a labor of love so it's time spent on love. What can be bad with that? We have all reached a point in our lives where that time is spent doing things that we love to do and doing things for people," said Mary Jean McEwen, a member of North East Crazy Quilters.

Mcewen added the quilters started working back in the spring and to have this many finished and presented here in September is faster than most projects.
