NORTH HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — The first selectman of North Haven provided an update on Monday on the town's plan to deal with feral cats.

North Haven walks back plan to euthanize feral cats

The selectman, Michael Freda, said on Facebook that there will be a three-step process in catching the cats and rehabilitating them.

First, there will be a humane mass trapping program organized by the organization Friends of Feral Cheshire Cats. Once they are caught, the cats will be transported to the Mount Carmel Animal Hospital in Hamden, where they will be behaviorally evaluated, determined if they are feral or not, as well as vaccinated and spayed if they are not already.

After that, they will be sent to a nearby shelter with room for them until they are able to find homes.

The first selectman emphasized again that the cats would not be euthanized.
