Northwest Boys Knock Out Mountain Top/ Also Staying Alive In Little League Event Are West Pittston, Ed/lark And Plains

McKENDREE – Justin Cornell struck out nine and hit a two-run homer in the
first inning as Northwest defeated Mountain Top 7-5 Friday in a District 16
Little League Baseball losers bracket game.

Justin Mausteller and Bret Rutkoski each added a solo home run in the
fourth for Northwest. Mausteller also doubled and Tyler Kittle added three
hits.
Dan Steeves had two hits, Zack Berg doubled and had an RBI and Matt Morgis
doubled for Mountain Top.


West Pittston 7, Jenkins Twp. 5

JENKINS TWP. – Julian Campenni hit a two-out two-run triple in the top of
the sixth inning to lead West Pittston in a losers bracket game.

Mark Bugelholl hit a two-run single in the fifth inning to tie the score
for the winners. Chris Murphy and Stephen Gaylets combined to score five of
the seven runs for West Pittston in support of winning pitcher Kyle Rogers,
who struck out five.

Jenkins Township losing pitcher James Castellino helped his cause with a
two-run home run, and teammates R.J. Emmitt and Jordan Bone each went 3-for-4.


Edwardsville/Larksville 12, Swoyersville 5

LARKSVILLE – Winning pitcher Jim Smicherko allowed just three hits and
struck out seven to lead his team over Swoyersville in the losers bracket.

Smicherko also starred at the plate, getting three hits including a triple.
Alexis Good and Matt Moran also had three hits, with one of Good’s being a
double.

Joe Olejnick hit a two-run homer for Swoyersville.


Plains 6, Bob Horlacher 1

BEAUMONT – Matt Menendez struck out 10, allowed just four hits and one walk
and was 3-for-3 at the plate for Plains in its losers bracket win.

Adam Yozwiak doubled and singled, and Jake Karavitch had two hits for
Plains.

Mike Thomas homered and Bill Dickson and Ryan Murphy had singles for
Horlacher.





Wyo./West Wyo./Exeter 5, Ed/Lark/Plymouth 4 (9)

WEST WYOMING – Wyoming/West Wyoming/Exeter’s Curtis Mocera scored on a
two-out infield single by Tyler Skrinak in the bottom of the ninth for a
dramatic win over Edwardsville/Larksville/Plymouth.

Dave Mizzer pitched all nine innings, striking out seven, and Mocera
finished with three hits.

Losing pitcher Matt Clarke also went all nine and struck out seven.




Back Mountain 13, Newport/Northwest 3 (4)

NEWPORT TWP. – Sara Kohli allowed just two hits and struck out seven to
earn the win in Back Mountain’s 10-run rule shortened game against
Newport/Northwest.

Kristen Baker led Back Mountain with three hits, and Sarah Konopki, Sarah
Skammer, Alexa Decker and Kohli each added a pair.

Kaitlin Rittenhouse and Charissa Tarnowski each had a hit for
Newport/Northwest.

Back Mountain will play host to Bob Horlacher today.


Horlacher/Harveys Lake 13, Plains 12

PLAINS TWP. — Schyler Yatsko doubled and tripled to help Bob
Horlacher/Harveys Lake to the comeback win over Plains, which led 5-0 in the
second inning.

Diana Deprimo added two hits for the winners while teammates Kristy
Komrowski, Ashley Inman and Katie Dructor each had a double. Nicole Snyder,
Ashley Metz and Katelyn Wojcik added singles.

Shelly Black and Courtney Kanwell each hit doubles for Plains.




Plains/N. Wilkes-Barre 13, Jenkins Twp. 0

PLAINS TWP. – Bill Dunsmuir pitched a two-hitter with four strikeouts as
Plains/North Wilkes-Barre shut out Jenkins.

Angelo Grilli had three hits and four RBI for the winners. Chris Iorio
tripled and scored three times. Justin Gober had two RBI.
