Not enough offense as CSS loses MIAC women's basketball opener
DULUTH — Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play got off to a rough start offensively for St. Scholastica women's basketball, which lost 65-42 to St. Catherine on Tuesday night at Reif Gym.
The Saints made only seven of 30 field-goal attempts in the first half but remained in contention down 27-20 against a St. Catherine team that scored 12 of its first-half-points from the free-throw line.
St. Kate's pulled away quickly in the third quarter, knocking down three triples and nearly doubling its total to grow its lead past 20 points.
Hattie Fox led all scorers for St. Kate's with 17 points. Cloquet alumna Maddie Young was her team's second leading scorer and rebounder with nine points and six boards off the bench.
For CSS, Kloey Lind had 16 points off the bench, while Hope Carlson (Proctor) added 10.
The Saints (1-2, 0-1 MIAC) travel to Augsburg on Wednesday, Nov. 29.
