Nova Music Festival exhibit comes to West Bloomfield

J.Thompson4 hr ago

Solemn rather than celebratory, "The Moment Music Stood Still: The Nova Music Festival Exhibition" comes to the metro area for a seven-day stay at The J in West Bloomfield.

The installation, which premiered in Tel Aviv earlier this year, chronicles the Israeli music festival in Re'im that was attacked by Hamas on Oct. 7, 2023, beginning a conflict that is still raging more than 13 months later. More than 400 people were killed during the sunrise massacre, with hundreds wounded and 40 taken hostage.

The exhibit — curated by Reut Feingold and Nova's producers — begins with a short film and includes artifacts salvaged from the festival such as tents, empty bottles, clothing, shoes and other items. There also are replicas of a DJ booth, bars and vendor tents, as well video reminiscences, written first-person accounts of the attack and preserved phone calls from attendees to loved ones.

The exhibit opens to the public on Monday, Nov. 18 and runs through Nov. 24 at The J, 6600 W. Maple Road, West Bloomfield. Advance registration is required. 248-661-1000 or thejdetroit.org for more information.
