Nuclear Museum To Host Hundreds Of Students During Nuclear Science Week Celebration Oct. 21

ALBUQUERQUE]—The National Museum of Nuclear Science & History will host students from 12 schools during Nuclear Science Week, Oct. 21-25, 2024.

More than 970 elementary, middle and high school students will engage in hands-on activities celebrating Nuclear Science Week. Museum staff, volunteers, and local professionals in the nuclear industry will host activities at the museum, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. daily to teach topics such as nuclear energy, medicine and radiation in the world around us and more.

Through grant funding acquired by the museum, most of the students and teachers participating in the week's nuclear science activities are from Title 1 schools around Albuquerque and have received free busing and admission to attend and participate in the national recognition of how nuclear science plays a vital role in the lives of Americans—and the world.

"Our local outreach during Nuclear Science Week is dedicated to promoting education and inspiring the next generation of scientists. Students will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on experiments, demonstrations, and career exploration opportunities," said Jennifer Hayden, President and CEO of the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History. "We're excited to bring together our educational team, volunteers, and local experts to celebrate the remarkable achievements of nuclear science and its potential for shaping our future."

Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center, The Bradbury Science Museum, Explora Science Center & Children's Museum, High Desert Amateur Radio Club of New Mexico, Kairos Power, Los Alamos National Laboratory, New Mexico Bureau of Geology, New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (NM Tech) Department of Mineral Engineering, and Dr. Sal Rodriguez (Sandia National Labs), Volunteers Exhibitors: Dr. Mike Hartshorne, Jeff Mahn.

About Nuclear Science Week

Now in its 15th year, throughout the week-long observance of Nuclear Science Week, a diverse range of activities and events will be organized around the globe to showcase the numerous applications of nuclear science, including carbon-free energy, global leadership, transformative healthcare, innovation & technology, and space exploration. The events may include interactive exhibits, workshops, documentary film screenings, and demonstrations. Participants will have the chance to interact with renowned experts, learn about the latest advancements in nuclear technology, and explore the impact of nuclear science in its many applications.

The week-long celebration will be organized by collaborating with international, national, and local organizations, including academic institutions, scientific societies, government agencies, and industry partners.
