Oaks Park sues ride maker over malfunction that trapped riders upside-down

PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - Oaks Park filed a lawsuit on Thursday against a ride manufacturer over a malfunction that left two dozen riders upside down for nearly a half hour in June.

The southeast Portland amusement park is suing the Italian company that built and installed the pendulum ride called the 'AtmosFEAR.'

The riders were stuck because Oaks Park did not have a tool to manually lower the ride. The park said the manufacturer, Zamperla, Inc., did not make such a tool because it did not expect such a situation to happen.

In the lawsuit, Oaks Park calls the ride maker "negligent and responsible" for the ride's failure.

This follows a lawsuit against Oaks Park by the family of a teenager who was on the AtmosFEAR ride when it got stuck. The family is claiming the park failed to maintain and operate the ride.
