Odd-even parking in Grand Rapids begins Nov 1

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Starting Nov. 1, seasonal parking rules will begin on many neighborhood streets in Grand Rapids.

The restriction means that on even-numbered days, parking is prohibited on the odd-numbered side of the street from 1 a.m. to 6 p.m. On each odd-numbered day, parking is prohibited on the even-numbered side of the street from 1 a.m. until 6 p.m. From 6 p.m. until 1 a.m. each day, parking is permitted on both sides of the street unless signs indicate otherwise.

parking restrictions allow city street sweepers and snowplows to access neighborhood streets easily to clear the leaves, tree debris and snow, the city said.

"We need the community's help as we work to clear streets of leaves and other tree debris that naturally fall into the road," John Gorney, public works director, said in a release. "Following the parking restrictions allows us to effectively clean the streets and ensures we don't have flooded streets this winter due to clogged catch basins."

Violations of the parking restrictions can result in a $20 ticket, the city said.

Odd-even and same-side parking begins at 12:01 a.m. on Nov. 1 and will be in effect until 11:59 p.m. on April 1.
