Officials ID 42-Year-Old Woman Killed In Freak Route 9 Bike Accident
Emergency responders from the Hyde Park Police Department, the New York State Police, the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office, the Fairview Fire Department, and the Roosevelt Fire Department were dispatched to the incident. Once on the scene, they found a woman lying on the roadway with severe, life-threatening injuries. Despite the efforts of the responders to admininster life-saving measures, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police identified the woman as 42-year-old Monica R. Deyo, of Hyde Park. Preliminary findings from the investigation determined that she was standing on the back pegs of a bicycle traveling across Route 9 from east to west.
At some point, she either fell or jumped off the bicycle, according to police.
A 2023 Subaru Outback, driven by a 39-year-old man from Houston, Texas, swerved in an attempt to avoid the bicycle in the roadway, but struck Deyo. Police say the driver sustained no injuries and remained on the scene, fully cooperating with investigators.
The Town of Hyde Park Police said they extend their deepest condolences to Deyo's family and loved ones during this difficult time. The also thanked the New York State Police, the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office, the Fairview Fire Department, the Roosevelt Fire Department, the Dutchess County Medical Examiner's Offfice, and the Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response for their support.
